Jörg Schwarzburg was born in Germany in 1975 and studied architecture and urban planning at Bauhaus University Weimar, Politecnico di Milano and the ETH Zurich, obtaining his diploma in 2002. He is registered as an architect and urban planner with Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects, the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA), REG A, and Ordine ingegneri e architetti del Cantone Ticino (OTIA).
He started his professional career in 2001 in the studio of Prof. Dr. Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani in Milan, as project manager for Novartis Campus Basel. In 2006, he joined Diener & Diener Architekten, Basel. There, he led projects for international clients in Shanghai and Rome, and, from 2009 until its completion in 2017, he led the project for the new Swiss Re Next corporate headquarters building in Zurich. Since 2012 he served as Senior Architect and Executive Board member. In 2017, he founded his own firm, Schwarzburg Architects Ltd.
